2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD vs 2024 Ford F-250
Power and Performance
The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD offers a choice between a 6.6L V8 gas engine and a 6.6L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel V8, both of which provide exceptional power and torque. The Duramax engine, in particular, delivers an impressive 470 horsepower and a staggering 975 lbs.-ft. of torque, making it one of the most capable engines in its class.
The Ford F-250 boasts extensive engine options, including a High-Output 6.7L Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel V8 that produces a bit more hp and torque than the Sierra’s TD. At first glance, the Ford’s best-in-class numbers make it a powerful contender, however it’s the depth of performance and capability detailing and refinement where the Sierra blows the Ford away. The best-in-class max towing capacity that Ford boasts is not applicable to its foundational crew cab trim which in a Crew Cab maxes out at 14,500 lbs. The Sierra 2500’s base model, the Pro trim, tows a standard 18,400 lbs. and when fully-equipped, a monstrous 22,000 lbs. That is an option not available in the Ford F-250 base model. It simply tows less. Beyond that metric, the Sierra 2500’s best-in-class cargo bed volume and best-in-class cargo box volume is underscored by the world’s first 6-function GMC MultiPro Tailgate that can become a full-width step capable of holding 375 lbs. on its own as just one of its functions.
Of crucial importance, the Sierra 2500 supports its massive trailering capability by offering the most trailering technology in its class. Ford’s trailering tech covers all the basics very well—but the Sierra 2500 offers features like the innovative Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering. This is an essential for long-haul towing in reducing driver fatigue and maintaining safe following distance. The Sierra 2500’s 14 available camera views put it a step above the competition with the innovative transparent trailer view, cargo bed view, a rear trailer view with guidelines and angle indicator, covering every angle of your truck and trailer inside and out.
Additionally, the Sierra has a far tighter turning diameter than the Ford F-250, contributing to its superior handling and more refined overall driving dynamics. Ultimately, the Sierra 2500 is more maneuverable and agile than the Ford F-250, while towing and hauling nearly as much with greater security, support, and ease of loading and unloading. This makes the Sierra 2500 a more well-rounded performer.
Technology
Beyond its cutting-edge trailering tech, GMC has always been at the forefront of integrating state-of-the-art technology into its vehicles, and the 2024 Sierra 2500 HD is no exception. The truck features the latest iteration of GMC's Infotainment System, offering a largest-in-class13.4-inch touchscreen display with standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, as well as Wi-Fi® Hotspot, and Bluetooth® for hands-free access, all standard.
The Ford F-250 comes equipped with Ford's SYNC® 4 system, which, while competent, lacks the same level of refinement and user-friendliness found in the Sierra. Its touchscreen is smaller at 12 inches maximum, which of course makes for smaller camera views as well. The Ford’s Driver Information Center is roughly the same size as the Sierra’s, though offers less customization, and the available Head-Up Display is 3 inches smaller than the Sierra’s 15-inch multicolor option that’s more clear and more visible, doing a better job of keeping you safe. When it comes to safety technology suites, the GMC Pro Safety suite in the Sierra 2500 also offers more standard features than Ford’s safety suite, solidifying the Sierra’s base model as better-equipped than the Ford F-250’s.
Interior
When it comes to interior luxury, the Sierra 2500 Denali and Denali Ultimate are the poster-trucks for indulgence. But every Sierra 2500 trim level is renowned for its comfortable, spacious interior, boasting best-in-class front head and legroom, critical after a hard day of work. Almost every trim offers 10-way leather-appointed power-adjustable seats with 2-way lumbar, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and more. The Ford F-250 only offers comparable luxuries in its top-tier trims, and even then, falls short of the Sierra’s incredible interior standard. Even the Sierra 2500’s most rugged trim, the AT4X, indulges its occupants with best-in-class 16-way power-adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, and massage features.
All but the Sierra’s base trims feature premium interiors like the AT4’s exclusive Jet Black leather with Kalahari accents, the AT4X American Expedition Vehicles Edition’s stunning embroidered headrest badging, or the Denali’s Atmosphere/Brownstone forge perforated leather, open-poor walnut wood and aluminum. But truly in a world of its own, the decadent Denali Ultimate’s cabin transports you with full-grain leather with contrast stitching, and the breathtaking embossed, laser-etched topographical map of Mt. Denali’s summit. In addition to its luxury, the Sierra 2500 remembers thoughtful details such as the front bench seat’s hidden storage and center seat ability to fold down for an extra large armrest. Practicalities like the available Snow Plow Prep/Camper Package show you that no facet of your life is forgotten in the crafting of the Sierra 2500.
